In today’s business world, there’s no room for weak, personality-less, timid marketers and you must understand only the strong survive. Success starts with you, what you focus on, how you think, and what you do on a repeated and consistent basis.

The good news is there are plenty of excellent books, courses, and people to help you develop and maximize your personal skills, and my goal with this chapter is to simply remind you of the critical importance on focusing on self-development. I am sixty years old right now. I listen to most of my books in my van while I drive twenty to thirty hours a week. I have turned my van into a learning institution. I suggest that you find time, and make time, to further your sales, business, and marketing education.

When you accept the fact that like product research and development, personal research and development is equally important, you’re on your way to bigger and better things. Here are a few simple ways to do this:

• If you drive a lot, it is listen and implement!
• Have an inner circle of trusted friends
• Attend events with excellent speakers
• Promise yourself you will always be a student
• Always be learning
• Celebrate and enjoy success, but be careful of complacency
